When you eat something high in carbs such as rice, pasta, bread or sugary sweets and desserts the body turns it into glucose or sugar and produces a hormone called insulin the fat storage hormone. Insulin is produced to process the glucose in your bloodstream by transporting it around your body.
When glucose is used as it's main energy source, fats are not needed for energy and are therefore stored. For people with Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome their bodies no longer hear the signals of insulin keeping their insulin levels high and raising blood sugars. Insulin Resistance is a risk factor for the development of Diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
